SUBJECT: STOP! Procrastinating…

If you've been in party plan for any length of time, you are probably familiar with the 80/20 rule. This rule, stated simply, says that 20% of the people on your team do 80% of the work.

In Brian Tracy's book EAT THAT FROG, he puts the 80/20 rule in terms of procrastination. He says that if you have a list of 10 “to-do's” … “only two of those items turn out to be worth as much or more than the other eight items put together.” He also says that while all the items on the list may take about the same amount of time to accomplish that one or two will actually “contribute five or ten times the value of any of the others…” So, the 80/20 rule applies in what you do each day as well. He suggests that you “resist the temptation to clear up small things first…whatever you choose to do over and over, eventually becomes a habit that is hard to break. If you choose to start your day on low-value tasks, you will soon develop the habit of always starting and working on low-value tasks. This is not the kind of habit you want to develop or keep.”

Me…procrastinate….NO WAY! Start piddling with little things before I get to important things like booking parties or scheduling recruiting appointments? OF COURSE NOT! Uh, well…oops…maybe just a couple of things… OK, OK, true confessions…here's the list of things I have come up with that I am totally guilty of and need to (obviously) change in light of what Brian Tracy has to say.

* E-MAIL…the number one culprit. Oh my, I can blink and two hours will be gone.

* Good Morning America…start to watch it just to make the bed at 7:30 and all of a sudden I'm sucked into Oprah…

* Chit chat with friends who know early A.M. is a great time to reach me.

* Read the newspaper (just to get a couple of email ideas)

* Order some things online, because THAT'S easier than phone calls!

Unbelievable, how in the world is it noon already? Guess it's time for lunch…what does the cooking channel have on today? AND, what should I make for dinner, and now I think I'd better run to the grocery, AND, now the kids are home from school and they need my attention, AND, AND, AND…

Hey Brian….did you spy on me before you wrote that book?

I called my GS leader, to get her to have the girl who picked a snowy leopard to pick another animal. I called my one recruit just to touch base. I Printed a gift certificate that I'm taking to a school for their silent aution tomorrow night. I also labeled some Collector's club flyers to take to the school too. I hope they pass them out.

I dropped off a catalog with my business cards attached to the back at my tire store. Hope to do more drop offs tomorrow.

Dropped of Agreement, catalog, and invitations for June Birthday workshop.

I also emailed a local humane center in hopes of somehow partnering with their fundraising.

Today I booked a workshop with a daycare for the end of May. I also worked on getting things together for a fundraising event that I am setting up at tomorrow with a group of consultants from other companies that I do a lot with.

Today I mailed off campfire bears info to local camps. I also sent flyers and business cards to a lady who plans social events for her neighborhood (she is having an event tonight). I also booked a workshop for her in June for her neighborhood kids. She is going to have a "kid's fun day" and rent a bounce house and have me do a workshop! I emailed a lady about doing a link exchange, and have been talking with her today about giving her flyers for a community advertisement that she puts together. She also has a home day care and may be interested in a future workshop. Yea!

I printed summer camp info off and took it to four daycares. Called later to make sure the correct person got the info as she was at lunch when I got there.

Had to work the "job" today but it was slow so I managed to address a bunch of Campfire Bears postcards and send them out.

I called some daycare centers to whom the mass mailing was done by Corp (the combination summer camp bears and the lil luvables), sent them information via e-mail as they requested. I returned a call to a scout leader to set up a workshop date and time in June. I did a workshop for a Brownie troop and we had great fun. I got a call from another Brownie leader asking questions about Bella Bee for an upcoming workshop in May. Thank you. ~Kim Wence, #1359

1.I contacted my second possible recruit and set an appt. for next week to have lunch and talk more about the opportunity.
2.Went to a "play time" to start making connections within this group. Leader is talking about having a workshop.
3.Emailed out reminders about my Mommy Tea and attached the regist. form this time. (1 customer replied and will be registering)
