If you've been around Noah's Ark Workshop for long you know that there's always been talk about a 30 second commercial. This weekend at our leadership rally the guest speaker, Che Brown, talked about an elevator speech - what you'd say to someone when the doors close and a stranger says to you "What do you do?". What would be the response you would give to be able to engage that person quickly and hopefully make a connection.
I liked his "formula" or "script" because it feels natural yet it's still scripted enough to remember and work. If you read the rally recap that the home office sent out you'll see it there but here's what I walked away with:
1. Do you know how...
2. What I do is...
3. Do you know any...
So for example:
"Do you know how day care centers are looking for great activities for their kids without having to drag them on a bus and deal with parent permission forms? Well, what I do is provide day care centers and other large group kids events with a fun "in house field trip" where I bring this fabulous make your own stuffed animal activity to them. Do you know any day care or camp directors who might appreciate something like that?"
or
"Do you know how a lot of moms really want to be home with their kids during the day but still need to bring in some income to the family budget? Well, what I do is train moms in a fun home based business that they can actually do with their kids. Do you know any moms who might need a little extra cash and are looking to work from home?"
Even if they say "not really" you can say "well, here's a cute little catalog and gift card - if you happen to think of someone feel free to pass this on to them - or keep it for yourself!" etc.
Such a simple little formula. Put your own words in there and give it a try next week!
